Week 2

We went back to the White Rose CW on Saturday. We did some more personal interviews with the residents there and it was really interesting. I think their way of life challenges our conceptions of what discipleship looks like. Can your whole life be committed to serving God? It made me really think about the political discourse in this country, so many idealogical conflicts but people don't really act on their ideals. If I say I care about the poor and argue about it all the time why don't I lobby for them? These are hard questions and in many ways made me feel a little inadequate about my efforts. This portion of the film, I expect, will be very challenging but potentially the most effective. I am increasingly seeing my faith as incompatible with many of the accepted realities of our society. How do I transform that reality? Hard questions.

First Day

We started filming yesterday at the White Rose Catholic Worker in Rogers Park. They are a really great community and are definitely working to live differently. We also heard from members of Christian Peacemaking Teams and they shared incredible stories about witnessing for peace and justice around the world where violence is so prevalent. The resulting discussion was inspiring. These people, along with the Catholic Worker, are so committed to starting a new reality with just the small choices they make every day. Truly they are living the gospel to the best of their ability and they definitely challenge our society and how we relate to one another. It feels incredible to be able to share these people's stories. I am very excited about the future conversations we get to have and then share with others.

Fundraising

We have Successfully raised our $1000. This will definitely help us to make this happen. Thank you to everyone that contributed.

Change of pace

We have talked through the concept and have decided to focus on some specific people who live in a way  that is committed to both the Catholic Faith and social justice.  The themes of CST make more sense through lived experience and so we want to make that accessible to people. The people at the White Rose Catholic Worker are on board along with Chuck Hendricks.   We are also looking for other ideas.  If anyone reads this blog, let us know your thoughts.
